“Softly & Tenderly” by Sara Evans with Rachel Hauck

In Whisper Hollow, Tennessee lives the Benson family. They are like southern royalty. Rebel is a high-powered lawyer with his own firm and his loyal wife, June. Their son, Max, also a lawyer, married Jade, a girl from a small town in Iowa.

When Jade drove June home one evening (and carried in her bags), they found Rebel in a compromising position with a good friend of June’s. Jade finds out that Rebel has had numerous affairs and June eventually forgives him or more like pretends it never happened. It had become a song and dance with them, but this time, in her house, June had enough.

June asked Jade to move into the loft of one of her stores. When Max found out, the pressure of his parents, his job and a truck smashing into one of the stores caused a relapse in his abuse of  prescription drugs. On top of everything happening in the lives of the Benson’s, their friend, Rice died in a plane crash while attempting her first solo trip across country. She leaves behind a son, Asa, who turns out to be Max’s son.

Jade needed to get away, to get some space. Her mother, Beryl, was dying of leukemia and wanted to go home to Iowa to die. So, June, Beryl and Jade hopped in a pink Cadillac and headed to Prairie City in hopes that each woman would find what they were looking for in their hearts.
