“The Bedlam Detective” by Stephen Gallagher

In 1912, Sebastian Becker is the special investigator to the Masters of Lunacy in England. He is sent to Arnmouth to investigate the sanity of Sir Owain Lancaster. Sir Owain wrote a book about his Amazon adventure. While traveling in the Amazon, his crew came across beasts that killed everyone, including his wife and son, and only Sir Owain survived. Rumors say that a mad white man turned on his crew and killed everyone because the river made him insane. It is Becker’s job to make a recommendation on Sir Owain’s insanity.

When Becker arrives in Arnmouth in the middle of a citywide search for two missing girls. They are found on Sir Owain’s property (the Lancaster family was so rich, they practically owned the whole city) dead. They were raped and their bodies torn. Was this the work of Sir Owain’s beasts?
