“Who I Am” by Melody Carlson

“Diary of a Teenage Girl: Caitlin, No. 3 (of 5)”

A new journal for a New Year. This last semester of high school brings along many controversial issues that Caitlin is facing for the first time. When Caitlin questions Beanie’s relationship with Joel, Beanie accuses her of being prejudice. While Caitlin’s concern is about Beanie dating because it has not been long since she lost her baby, Beanie says it is because Joel is African-American (if that is not the politically correct term, I apologize). Beanie also points out that Caitlin has no friends of color. So Caitlin and her friends organize activities that include all races and ethnicities. Some people think that it is a wonderful to integrate everyone, not everyone is happy about it.
