“Love Me Back” by Cheryl A. Baisden

On August 16, 1969, Beth fled Kansas City after John beat her to an inch of her life. Before she left, Beth noticed a shadowy figure in John’s semi-truck and knew her mother was in the house sleeping. Wanting to stay away from John, Beth did not investigate.

Years have passed and Beth worked as a waitress at Dolly’s Dinner in Lawrence, Kansas, about an hours drive from home. It is now 1974 and a missing girl, Sarah White, was found in a well at an abandoned farmhouse. Beth realized it was the well at her old home. Sarah had been missing since August of 1969 and everyone knew John killed her, but Beth knew that Sarah was the shadowy figure in John’s semi. Beth shared her story with the police. They wanted to bring in Charlotte, who went missing, in for questioning and they could not find John. All Beth wants is for the nightmares of her past to go away.
