“The River” by Michael Neale

While flying home to Nashville, the connecting flight for the narrator, in Denver, was canceled due to mechanical issues. The next flight was in three and a half hours so the narrator found a quiet, empty spot eight gates down. Ten pages into his book, a large man plopped down two seats away from him and started making small talk. He was going home after a three month trip “running National Geographic’s Top Ten Most Dangerous and Beautiful Rivers in the World. Five continents, nineteen thousand miles, a couple of near-death experiences, some serious wildlife, tons of new friends, and the time of [his] life.” His name is Gabriel Clarke and this is his story.
